The direct predecessor of the first KÖZGÉP was founded After World War I, in 1921.Its responsibility was to carry out repair works and maintenance of tools operating under the direction of road construction and County State Architecture Offices. After World War II. in 1945 State Bridge Maintenance Plant was established under the supervision of the Bridge Department of the Ministry Traffic and Post for the purpose of the reconstruction of damaged bridges. Soon afterwards, in 1951Public Road Machine Servicing Company was formed by the Ministry for the purpose of completing tasks related to road construction. Royal State Road Repair Workshop was merged into it.

In 1994 the company became a public limited company under the name of Közgép-Union-Machine and Steel Structure Manufacturing Plc. - having regard to the tradition - Közgép Building and Steal Structure Manufacturing Plc. in 2004.
