The first predecessor of the KÖZGÉP Co. was founded after World War I in 1921. This firm was responsible for repairing the equipments of road construction and maintenance operating under the direction of County State Architectural Offices. The State Bridge Maintenance Works was established to restore the damaged bridges after World War II in 1945 under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport and Post.
Shortly afterwards, in 1951 the Ministry of Transport and Communication founded the Company for Road Machinery Supply for the duties of road construction, which merged with the Hungarian Royal State Road Machinery Repair Workshop. The legal form of this firm was changed to Plc. (public limited company) in 1994 called Közgép-Union Machinery - and Metal Structure Manufacturing Company Limited by Shares which having regarded to the tradition changed to Közgép Machine and Metal Structure Manufacturing Company Limited by Shares in 2004.

In 2004, the company's activity including the manufacturing and installation of steel structures was extended with the road and highway construction, civil engineering, environmental investments, structural architecture.
